Paul, nice to hear that you're trying Linux. I've been using it for several years. I've only had my iPhone for a few days, so I haven't tried messing with iTunes yet. However, you can always do the dual boot thing. I boot into Windows about once every two weeks, and I installed iTunes there. (I'll probablly have to boot Windows a little more often just to sync.) However, it's Linux for everything else. Drop me a note if you have questions, and I'll try to help. Dan

Great show you guys! I was also introduced to computing with the TI994A. Amazingly I still have the box it came in, I'll have to post a pic on the 365 group.

I am a huge Linux nerd as well. I did my first install way back in 95 and I have been using it since that time. Be sure to keep up with the updates Paul.

I am surprised that the show went as far as Linux with Drew clearly being a Mac FanBoy. Nice to listen to. Search on ubuntuforums.org for itunes. I believe you can get it to work if you install Wine (windows emulator) and then install itunes.

Hello Paul & Drew - I love the N3rd moment podcasts and I look forward to downloading new ones.

I have a netbook that runs on Linux (Ubuntu to be precise). Until I had the netbook, I had only used Windows operating systems. I was a bit apprehensive about trying something completely new, but Linux is easy to use, free and fun.

I have a PC as well as the netbook because there are a few functions (eg iTunes) that won't work on Linux, and because I need a bigger set up than a netbook can offer. But on the whole, Linux is great, and my netbook gets a lot of use.

Hi

I have been using linux for the last 4 years and never looked back.

I was wondering what dist you are using?

P.S.
iTunes does not work in Linux.
I don't have an iPhone, but you can maybe get some help here, if you are using Ubuntu.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PortableDevices/iPhone

If you are missing other apps, just ask :)

Great listening to these shows! My first computer was a TI994A, too -- relatively quickly replaced by a MacPlus. Went Mac, never looked back! Also, didn't hear mention of the free replacement for Microsoft Office -- OpenOffice suite! Works on Linux, even on a Mac... next show, update on iTunes and OpenOffice set up on the new Linux machine!
